Vision: GYSTC will be the organization of choice throughout the state of Georgia for promoting student interest and achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics from kindergarten through grade eight.


Mission: The Georgia Youth Science and Technology Centers, Inc. provides quality programs for teachers of STEM subjects that improve the teaching and learning process at the K-8 levels. We present programs that change students’ conceptions and inspire an appreciation for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics subjects.

Excursions


Teachers can also earn staff development units by participating in excursion classes that involve travel to unique areas of the globe for one-of-a-kind studies. They can explore the ecosystems of the Florida Keys, prowl the dunes on Georgia’s barrier islands, skirt through the canopy of a Costa Rican rainforest, or swim with a friendly manatee. These trips provide valuable learning experiences that enrich classroom learning for K-12 teachers.

The Authors of Picture Perfect Science Come to GEORGIA!


Karen Ansberry and Emily Morgan will be conducting three days of training in georgia designed to help teachers learn how to integrate real life, hands on science with reading using the 5-E method of inquiry. Timed to help teachers with Georgia's AYP requirement, this training features the Nation's most respected resource for integration.

  1. Flippen Elementary School Second Grade Science Day

    March 02, 2012

    On January 24, 2012, Terrie Myers, North Georgia Mountains YSTC Regional Coordinator along with teachers at Flippen Elementary School in Henry County facilitated a Second Grade Science Day. The exhibits included: Butter Matters ( changing heavy cream to butter, liquid to solid), Humpty Dumpty Together Again (parts to whole), Scrumptious Fungus ( fungi, fungal foods presented for students to taste), Squiggle Estimation (estimation). One hundred twenty students were rotated between the four activities and had a blast!

  2. Ford Family Science Nights

    February 27, 2012

    On February 2, 2012, Ford sponsored a Family Science Night at Lithia Springs Elementary School in Douglas County. Over 100 parents and nearly 150 students were greeted by West GYSTC Regional Coordinator Steve Rich and teachers and administrators of the school for an evening of fun hands-on science. The families experience how much fun science is with more than a dozen hands-on exhibits.
