11/9/2010 12:00:00 AM

GYSTC received a $56,000 contribution from AT&T to support 156 Family Science Nights across Georgia. Each event will engage students and their families in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The activities are a part of a standardized set of curriculum related to the Georgia Performance Standards, which is required for all public schools in Georgia.

Students and parents became scientists for the night at the AT&T sponsored GYSTC Family Science Night at Dugan Elementary School in Douglasville, GA on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010. Students in grades K-5 learned how to clean up an oil spill, use common kitchen liquids in chemistry experiments, demonstrate Newton’s first law of motion and investigate the effects of static electricity.
